The Doggers Getting Ready for Christmas

The dogs really do enjoy their necklaces. I ordered them from a fellow eskie lover, she did a great job! Bruno is always prancing around the house. This was Buddy's first Christmas with us. In fact, it was only his second month after being rescued from the animal shelter. He was delighted to be spoiled, even if I made him wear a necklace!

Consider a Reskie

With all the insanity surrounding my life during the holidays, I simply wish for a quiet night alone with my hubs and the doggers. I remember when we went to meet Buddy at an animal shelter in Illinois. He ran straight to me and jumped on me, sniffing and licking me. We had an instant connection. The women running the shelter encouraged me to take him outside on a leash so he could get to know me and hubs. It was funny to watch him testing to see if this mysterious man was a danger or nice like the lady :) It took Buddy awhile, but he began to trust that scary man. Now if you would visit our family I think Buddy is closer to the hubs than me! The point of all of this is the importance of considering animal shelters and rescue organizations for available pets. People say rescued animals make the best pets. Now I am not saying that is always true, because even precious Buddy has had to overcome a lot of behaviors in order to become a functional member of our family. There are amazing people out there working to save abandoned and abused animals. Please consider helping them by becoming a foster family for a homeless animal or adopt your own pet!! When your driving to your next family gathering send a little thought out for all those animals without a family during this busy holiday season, I know I will.

Bruno's First Night at Home

This is baby Bruno. One of the rare nights he actually slept all night in his bed, and it was his first night home! His little teeth make me laugh! There is nothing better than puppies, not even a new pair of shoes...and those two certainly don't go well together!

To this day he LOVES purple Gatorade :)

Around four years ago I began dropping little hints to my hubbie about adding a bundle of joy to the family. We had been married for two years, and most of our friends had children or were expecting. But I was not interested in having a baby. I wanted a puppy!! Unfortunately, he did not share my enthusiasm. Lucky for me a beautiful American Eskimo puppy did all the work! We brought him home that night. We named him Bruno. Little did we know we had just bought a very sick puppy. Two days later Bruno began showing signs he was ill and getting worse quick. I began a frantic search online to find out what could be wrong. After some reading and online chatting I was convinced he had parvo and new he needed the vet asap. The vet returned my call that night recommending I "push" Gatorade through the night and call if he got worse. Bruno drank tiny sips from the bottle cap, but he was getting worse. The vet agreed to meet me in the office that night. When we arrived he immediately started parvo treatment and recommended Bruno stay for several days for the best possible results. I was devastated because to me that meant he would probably not make it. I visited him the next day and he was so excited to see his new Momma. After three days, Bruno was ready to come home and get the IV out!! Two years later he is a healthy and happy young boy! I have learned a lot in our years together and can't wait to share them with you.
